People who want to do something in the wake of radio host Kidd Kraddick's untimely death will have a chance on Friday.

Kraddick, whose birth name is David Peter Cradick, died of cardiac disease in New Orleans on Saturday. He was best known for his hugely popular nationally syndicated morning radio show "Kidd Kraddick in the Morning" on KISS-FM in North Texas.

Friday has been proclaimed Kidd Kraddick Kidd's Kids Day, a day to raise money for Kidd's Kids, his charity. For more than 10 years, Kidd's Kids has provided seriously ill children and their family with free trips to Disney World and other places.

There are four ways to donate:

  • Stop by any participating DFW Raising Cane's Chicken Fingers location
  • Donate online at 1061kissfm.com
  • Text "KIDD" to 52000 to automatically donate $10
  • Call 214-866-8106 to donate by phone

Kraddick was in New Orleans for a charity golf tournament for his foundation.

"He died doing what he loved, and his final day was spent selflessly focused on those special children that meant the world to him," his family said in a statement shortly after his death.

Marcos Saldano who has cystic fibrosis, went to Disney World with Kraddick in 2008. The two formed a bond he will never forget, Saldano said.

"That was the thing about Kidd -- no matter what he was doing, he made time," he said.

"Kidd wasn't just any celebrity; he was my friend," he said.

Details on a public memorial service are expected to be announced soon.

NBC 5's Meredith Land contributed to this report, which also includes information from previous stories on Kraddick's death.

Weiner Can't Recall How Many Women He Sexted

Anthony Weiner stammers as he tries to answer reporters' questions Thursday, and admits he had online affairs with as many as three women after resigning. "All I can say is, it's not dozens and dozens," he said.

Weiner's Wife: I Have Forgiven Him

New York City mayoral candidate Anthony Weiner admits Tuesday that he engaged in explicit online affairs even after he resigned from Congress, after a gossip website posted what it said is evidence of one of those relationships. The married former Democratic congressman speaks at a press conference, alongside his wife Huma Abedin.

New York City mayoral candidate Anthony Weiner says he chose the name Carlos Danger as his online sexting persona because it was a private joke with a personal acquaintance.

"It was a joke in my personal life between me and one person," he told Univision in an interview Thursday.

Weiner didn't identify the person, but then added that he wasn't going to comment on anything "that that person has chosen to release."

Sydney Leathers, the woman who came forward last month with details of their sexting affair, has released emails, lewd photos, messages and other details about their online affair that began a year after he resigned from Congress.

Weiner has vowed he is not quitting the mayoral race, and has struggled to steer the conversation in the campaign away from his online activities.

But he did not definitively close the book when asked by Univision on Thursday whether his sex scandal "has finally finished, is it over?"

"Well this has been behind me for some time. Many of the things that people read in the newspapers happened a year ago," he said. "So, look, I can't say that nothing from my past will ever come back to haunt me. I hope it doesn't."

Dallas Fire-Rescue said they found a man's body crushed in an alley behind North Fitzhugh Avenue and Capitol Avenue in Dallas.

DFR said they received a call about a man in that same alley at about 2 a.m. Friday and went to check on his condition. Authorities said at that time, he was just sleeping.

Five hours later, crews were called back out to find the man had been crushed by some type of vehicle.

Police have not identified the man, nor have they given any information about what type of vehicle they're looking for in connection with the incident.

Officers suggested someone could be charged with failure to stop and render aid or involuntary manslaughter and said they don't believe the man was intentionally run over.

One woman is dead after being stabbed in a brawl in a Fort Worth apartment parking lot.

Neighbors at the Bellagio Apartments in the 3000 block of Las Vegas Trail said they woke up to the sound of screaming as dozens of people fought in the parking lot of an apartment complex early Friday morning.

Fort Worth police said an 18-year-old woman was stabbed by another woman multiple times in the neck, chest, and leg during the fight. She was transported to John Peter Smith hospital were she later died.

Police took one female suspect into custody at the scene, but are looking for a second female in connection with the attack after witnesses told police two different people were involved.

Charles Ramirez, with the Fort Worth Police Department, described the scene as "confusing" and said police interviewed more than 15 witnesses to the incident.

Ramirez said the victim and the suspect in custody were believed to be fighting over both a boyfriend and an assault that occured on Thursday. Ramirez described the relationship between the victim and one suspect as having "ongoing issues."

Neighbors said they were shocked by the scene due to the age and gender of those allegedly involved.

"Cause it's girls. You don't expect to see stuff like that from girls, you know what I'm saying?" apartment resident Victor Thompson said. "Maybe fighting, but not stabbing. And they're so young too."

Homicide detectives plan to interview the female suspect in custody as well as any other witnesses that come forward.

NBC 5's Jeff Smith contributed to this story.

A University Park teenager fighting West Nile fever is the third case of West Nile virus reported in Dallas County this season.

Dallas County Health and Human Services said the patient lives in the 75225 zip code, which is in University Park.

A city representative said the boy has West Nile fever. It is the milder form of the virus and has flu-like symptoms.

Dr. Bryan Wasson, a doctor of internal medicine with Baylor Health Care System, said the fever can go down without turning into a more serious form.

The case is the third one in Dallas County reported this week. A patient is Richardson has also been diagnosed with West Nile fever, but a Grand Prairie resident has been diagnosed with the neuroinvasive form of West Nile virus.

News of a third case is not a good indicator for the rest of the season, Wasson said.

"We're very much hopeful that we had a better game plan in order to combat this infestation than we did last year, but again, not a good sign when we're seeing it so early and with three cases in such a short period of time," he said.

This year, University Park started its anti-mosquito efforts early after a resident died of West Nile virus in 2012. University Park has been fogging city parks, schools and alleys since April.

When the city received news of the juvenile case on Wednesday night, workers began spraying the area near the patient's home, which is in the north-central area of the city.

Residents said they plan to take preventative measures to fight the bite outdoors.

"I guess we have to be more careful and use bug spray all day," Sara Keshavarz said.

Fort Worth police are looking for a man they said left a child in a yard overnight Thursday.

Police were called to the 5100 block of Ollie Street after being told a man left a baby there.

Police said the situation started earlier in the night when the child's mother left to buy drugs and got arrested. The woman called a man police said is a known gang member.

That man took the child to his brother's house, where the two got into an argument, police said. The man then left and took the child to his niece's house on Ollie Street.

Police said the man left the child in the yard at his niece's home. The niece and grandmother were home at the time and took care of the child until police arrived.

Child Protective Services now has custody of the child.

Police said they don't yet know what charges the man may face.

Woman Says Raccoon Attacked, Bit Her in Central Park

advertisement

A Brooklyn woman says a raccoon in Central Park pounced on her, then bit her, when she took a picture of the animal during a walk.

Taraka Larson, a musician, was taking a sunset walk by the pond near the Plaza Hotel when she spotted a pair of raccoons.

"I was still listening to music so it just kind of seemed like they were dancing with each other," she said.

They were too cute not to capture on camera, Larson thought. So she took out her phone and snapped a photo.

That's when one of the raccoons fixed its stare on her.

"I froze," Larson said.

Lumbering and almost appearing intoxicated, they approached. Larson didn't want to make a move.

"You're afraid," she said. "You don't want to run away because what if they just like pounce on you? But then one of them did."

The raccoon sunk its teeth into Larson's leg.

"It was biting my leg, like gnawing on it," she said.

And then, she said, "I just kicked it off and it went flying into the bushes."

Larson then ran to the plaza, where workers told her she needed to seek treatment.

"'Miss, you could have rabies,'" she recalled them telling her. "'You don't need Band-Aids or Neosporin. You need to go to a hospital.'"

She went to Roosevelt Hospital, where she got 21 rabies shots as a precaution.

Rabid raccoon attacks are rare in the city, and the Parks Department said it doesn't believe those raccoons were sick, just curious. They're still investigating and in the meantime, advise people to keep a safe distance from the wildlife in the park.

It's a lesson learned for Larson.

"I think I'm just a lot more aware of animals that might be behaving strangely," she said.

The City of Dallas says nearly 14,000 requests for tickets were received by people who hoped to attend an observance in Dealey Plaza on the 50th anniversary of the assassination of President John F. Kennedy.

The city has said only 5,000 tickets will be available for the event and that only half of those will be offered up to North Texans.  The other half will go to government and city leaders, the media and the public who live outside of DFW.

The city said 13,700 people filed requests for tickets by the July 31 deadline.  Next, a computer will randomly allocate the 2,500 tickets available, though those who receive tickets are subject to a security screening by the Dallas Police Department.

The tickets, once granted, will be available for pickup on the day of the event and are not transferable.

Remote sites will be set up nearby Dealey Plaza so those who are unable to attend the event can see the ceremony on Nov. 22.

More information about the Kennedy Memorial Ceremony is at 50thHonoringJohnFKennedy.com.
